Including filter system and high-performance 4:2 FTS filter.
4:2 FTS is one member of the PFAS family that can travel through the environment and end up in drinking water. Nevins homeowners most often hear about it from utility notices, private well testing, or real estate water reports. Because 4:2 FTS is invisible and has no taste, many families in our humid subtropical area prefer to reduce exposure for drinking, cooking and bathing. That usually means choosing a treatment designed specifically for PFAS — not just a basic sediment or taste filter.
Since 4:2 FTS is grouped with other fluorinated chemicals, it may appear on reports alongside different PFAS even when it’s the compound named. Typical carbon taste filters, water softeners, and sediment cartridges aren’t guaranteed to capture PFAS consistently. For Nevins homes — where hard water from limestone aquifers can already cause scale — the most dependable plan is whole-house treatment at the main water line so every tap and appliance is protected rather than relying on a single under-sink device.
For removing 4:2 FTS throughout a residence, the top whole-home option is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) system sized and specified for PFAS reduction. Activated carbon can adsorb many PFAS compounds, but how well it works depends on having sufficient carbon volume and contact time as water flows through the tank. That’s why full-size, tank-based or backwashing GAC units are usually a better match for whole-house reduction in Nevins than small inline cartridges, and proper sizing helps the media perform longer between services.
A whole-house GAC filter is mounted on the main supply so it treats water for showers, sinks, laundry and the kitchen all at once; pairing it with a prefilter keeps sediment from clogging the carbon bed. For compounds like 4:2 FTS, regular maintenance matters because spent carbon can no longer adsorb PFAS effectively. Mr. Pure Water can assess Nevins water conditions, including hard-water considerations, and recommend the right carbon system and service schedule to deliver reliable, home-wide treatment.
