Including filter system and high-performance Alkalinity filter.
Alkalinity refers to water’s capacity to neutralize acids and is mostly controlled by dissolved bicarbonates, carbonates, and hydroxides. Around Lake Mystic, homeowners may notice high alkalinity as a flat, soda-like flavor to drinking water, persistent scale on faucets and showerheads, or soap that leaves a residue instead of rinsing away. Though related, alkalinity and pH are different measurements, and one can be out of balance even when the other looks normal—making the water chemistry feel stubborn to change with ordinary treatments.
Because alkalinity comes from natural minerals, levels can shift between nearby streets and with seasonal changes in supply, even in Lake Mystic. Many families first spot the issue when coffee or tea tastes off, glassware shows spots quickly, or white buildup reappears after cleaning. Elevated alkalinity can also reduce the effectiveness of point-of-use filters and water softeners, since the underlying chemistry still favors scale formation. A straightforward water test is the best way to determine if alkalinity is causing the problems you’re seeing at home.
To treat alkalinity for an entire home, the most effective single-filter solution is a whole-house neutralizing/acid-injection system combined with a contact tank and a backwashing media filter. This setup doses a small amount of food-grade acid to convert excess alkalinity—mainly bicarbonates—into more stable forms, then uses the contact tank to mix and the downstream media filter to polish the water before it reaches your plumbing. The approach delivers balanced water chemistry at every tap in your Lake Mystic home, rather than addressing only one point of use.
At Mr. Pure Water we size alkalinity-reduction systems to match your Lake Mystic home’s flow rate and the alkalinity shown on your water analysis. Correct sizing and control are important to make steady adjustments without overcorrecting, which can make water aggressive or unpleasant. Whole-house treatment helps protect fixtures, reduce scale, and improve how water tastes and performs for bathing, cooking, and cleaning; if you only need drinking-water treatment, under-sink reverse osmosis is an alternate option, but whole-house control is the better choice when alkalinity affects the entire home.
