Benzyl Butyl Phthalate in Perdido Key Florida Water

Unhealthy Levels of Benzyl Butyl Phthalate in the Water Supply of Perdido Key Florida Homes

Benzyl butyl phthalate is a phthalate commonly used to make some plastics more flexible. Over time these compounds can leach out of plastic and building materials and show up at low concentrations in water. Because benzyl butyl phthalate is usually colorless and lacks a distinctive taste or smell, the only way to know if it’s present is through testing. Many Perdido Key homeowners investigate treatment when they want broader protection from trace organic chemicals throughout their house.

This contaminant most commonly reaches water through contact with plastic components or materials that carry organic compounds, so it can accompany other man-made contaminants when water flows through or is stored in plastic. Even if your water looks clear at the faucet in your Perdido Key home, trace levels of organic chemicals can still be present. Choosing a whole-house solution treats water for bathing, laundry, cooking and drinking rather than relying solely on a single-point device at the kitchen sink.
