Including filter system and high-performance Cryptosporidium filter.
Cryptosporidium is a tiny parasite that can enter drinking water when source supplies are affected by animal or human waste. One well-known type, Cryptosporidium parvum, forms hardy oocysts that resist many common treatments and can survive in the environment. Because of its small size it can sometimes pass through standard treatment steps if conditions aren’t optimal. Stern homeowners often look for extra safeguards after a local advisory or simply to add another layer of protection beyond basic municipal or well treatment.
Unlike issues such as chlorine taste or visible mineral scale, Cryptosporidium usually doesn’t change water’s smell, taste, or appearance, so you can’t tell by looking. That invisibility makes it especially worrying for families in Stern who use tap water daily for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Because it’s generally controlled by physically removing the oocysts rather than relying solely on disinfection, homeowners often choose a whole-house strategy so every tap and shower point is covered—not just the kitchen sink.
The most effective single-filter option for Cryptosporidium is a true microfiltration barrier that captures cyst-sized particles. In practice, an absolute 0.1 micron-rated filter is commonly used because it targets the size of Cryptosporidium and Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. That differs from many general sediment filters, which are nominal-rated and may allow smaller particles to pass. A properly sized whole-house 0.1 micron microfilter provides consistent removal for all water entering a Stern home.
Because a whole-house microfilter creates a finer barrier, it must be selected and installed with Stern household flow rates and expected pressure drop in mind. Pairing an upstream pre-filter to catch larger grit will extend the life of the microfilter and keep performance steady. Routine cartridge replacements are important since captured organisms remain trapped rather than neutralized. Mr. Pure Water can assess your Stern home's needs and recommend a whole-home microfiltration setup that balances reliable Cryptosporidium reduction with your household’s water demand.
