Earthy Taste in Fruitland Park Florida Water

Unhealthy Levels of Earthy Taste in the Water Supply of Fruitland Park Florida Homes

An earthy taste in your water can make simple things like drinking, cooking, or brushing your teeth less enjoyable for Fruitland Park homeowners. People often describe it as musty, like damp soil, or a lingering pond-like flavor. That sensation usually comes from natural organic matter and the compounds it forms, especially when surface waters or seasonal changes affect the supply. Even when water is safe, that off-putting flavor can make it feel wrong at the tap.

Earthy taste is most often caused by compounds such as geosmin and 2-MIB, produced by algae, bacteria, and decaying plants in source water. In Fruitland Park and surrounding Lake County, these tastes can appear after seasonal shifts, distribution system disturbances, or treatment adjustments that alter smell and flavor. Because the compounds are detectable at very low levels, homeowners may notice dramatic changes in taste from small variations — but the issue is usually treatable with the right filtration.
