Earthy Taste in Sabal Palms Estates Florida Water

Unhealthy Levels of Earthy Taste in the Water Supply of Sabal Palms Estates Florida Homes

An earthy taste in your water can make drinking, cooking and even brushing your teeth less enjoyable. People often describe it as musty, like damp soil, or a lingering “pond” flavor. In many cases these sensations come from natural organic matter and the compounds it forms in source water — and even when supplies meet safety standards, the flavor can still seem off. Sabal Palms Estates homeowners who rely on our local, hard groundwater know how noticeable small changes in taste can be around the house.

Earthy taste is most often caused by compounds such as geosmin and 2-MIB, produced by algae, bacteria and decaying plant material in source waters. You might notice the flavor after seasonal shifts, storm runoff, or changes in treatment and distribution, since these compounds are detectable at very low levels. The good news for residents of Sabal Palms Estates is that taste-and-odor problems like this are usually treatable when the right filtration strategy is used.
