Including filter system and high-performance Geosmin filter.
Geosmin is a natural compound that can give water an earthy or musty smell and taste, even when everything else looks normal. Many Esto homeowners first notice it in cold water from the tap or when pouring a glass, detecting a dirt- or pond-like aroma. It’s produced by certain algae and bacteria in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, and those compounds can make their way into a home’s supply. While geosmin usually shows up as an off-putting odor or flavor rather than a visible change, it can still make everyday water use less pleasant around the house.
People can detect geosmin at very low levels, so even small amounts may affect drinking water, ice, coffee, and cooking — and showers in Esto can seem less fresh when warm water releases that earthy scent. Boiling water doesn’t reliably remove the odor and may even make it more noticeable as steam carries the smell. When geosmin appears intermittently, it’s often linked to seasonal shifts or changes in source-water conditions rather than anything happening inside your home.
To treat geosmin throughout your Esto home, a catalytic carbon whole-house filter is generally the best single-filter option. Carbon media adsorbs taste-and-odor compounds as water flows through the tank, reducing earthy smells before water reaches faucets. Catalytic carbon is a more reactive form of carbon engineered to handle stubborn organic compounds more effectively than standard carbon. Installed at the main water entry, it provides treated water for drinking, bathing, cooking, and laundry all at once.
A correctly sized catalytic carbon tank can also cut down on other nuisance odors that sometimes follow changes at the source. The important part is matching media volume and contact time to your household’s flow so the filter has enough opportunity to capture geosmin rather than letting it pass through. Unlike small under-sink cartridges that only serve one fixture, whole-house carbon filtration improves water quality at every tap without changing your routines. Mr. Pure Water can help Esto homeowners choose the right whole-house catalytic carbon setup so your water tastes and smells clean again.
