Including filter system and high-performance Giardia filter.
Giardia is a tiny parasite that can enter drinking water when hardy cysts get into a supply; you may also see it called Giardia intestinalis or Giardia lamblia. Because the organisms are microscopic they won’t change taste, smell, or appearance, so homeowners in North Key Largo often choose added protection at the point where water comes into the house. In our coastal, humid climate with storm exposure, many residents prefer an extra barrier to limit the chance of cysts reaching indoor plumbing.
Water can become exposed to contamination through damaged pipes, cross-connections, or runoff after heavy rains and storm events—issues that matter in the Florida Keys and Monroe County. Even if municipal or private treatment is in place, some households in neighborhoods like Ocean Reef Club or Port Largo opt for an additional whole-house barrier for peace of mind. A system installed at the mainline delivers the same level of protection to every shower, faucet, and appliance in the home.
The most effective single filter type for addressing Giardia at the whole-house level is a cyst-rated absolute membrane filter. These filters use a physical, very fine-pored barrier to strain out Giardia cysts instead of relying on chemical disinfection alone. When sized correctly for your home's flow—important in North Key Largo houses with moderate water hardness and varied demand—the membrane can protect all fixtures without leaving coverage gaps.
Installed on the main water line, a whole-house membrane filter gives the best chance of stopping cysts before they reach taps in North Key Largo homes. Performance hinges on choosing the right micron rating and keeping the filter maintained so flow and protection remain steady, and many local installations include an upstream prefilter to capture larger sediment and extend membrane life. Mr. Pure Water can assess your plumbing, consider corrosion and storm-related reliability, and recommend the membrane and prefiltration setup that fits your household’s needs.
