Including filter system and high-performance HPC Bacteria filter.
HPC bacteria are a broad mix of naturally occurring microbes that can live in water and inside plumbing systems; you may also see this called heterotrophic plate count, a lab measure used to estimate overall bacterial presence. Those test results don’t identify a single pathogen but can indicate conditions that let bacteria multiply. In Festus homes, homeowners sometimes spot signs like musty smells, slimy buildup on fixtures, or faster biofilm formation in showerheads and faucets when general bacterial growth is present.
Heterotrophic plate count can increase when water sits in pipes, when sediment and organic material provide food, or when plumbing allows biofilm to form. These situations can lead to changes in taste or odor alongside general bacterial activity. Although many heterotrophic bacteria aren’t known to cause disease, higher HPC bacteria can signal that your home’s water system needs attention. A whole-house strategy in Festus targets the water entering your property and helps reduce the conditions that allow regrowth downstream.
To reduce HPC bacteria throughout the house, a whole-house ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system is generally the most effective single-filter solution. UV inactivates microorganisms as water flows through a stainless chamber exposed to a UV lamp, treating water in real time without adding chemicals or altering taste. Installed at the point of entry, a UV system protects every tap, shower, and appliance in your Festus home from heterotrophic plate count concerns.
For dependable UV performance the water feeding the unit must be clear enough for the light to penetrate—heavy sediment, iron, or cloudiness can shield microbes. That’s why whole-house UV is often paired with prefiltration, with the UV stage as the core technology targeting microorganisms like HPC bacteria. Correct sizing for your home’s flow rate and regular lamp and sleeve maintenance keep the system working well; Mr. Pure Water can help Festus homeowners choose and install the right whole-house UV system to better control heterotrophic plate count at the source.
