Humic Acids in Callaway Florida Water

Unhealthy Levels of Humic Acids in the Water Supply of Callaway Florida Homes

Humic acids form naturally as leaves, wood and other plant material decompose, and when they get into water they can tint it a yellow or tea color, leave an earthy taste, or cause an off odor. These compounds are part of the broader group known as humic substances, which also includes fulvic acids. While not the result of a chemical spill, elevated levels can make everyday water use around your Callaway home less pleasant.

Aside from looks and flavor, higher amounts of natural organic matter can cause practical headaches like staining, a film on fixtures, and uneven taste from tap to tap in your house. Humic substances can also force utilities to use more disinfectant to keep water safe, occasionally producing a stronger chlorine-like smell in some homes. Because humic acids and fulvic acids fluctuate with seasons and source-water conditions, the issue may come and go; treating water at the point of entry gives consistent protection for every shower, sink, and appliance in Callaway.
