Norovirus in Stern Florida Water

Unhealthy Levels of Norovirus in the Water Supply of Stern Florida Homes

Norovirus is a very contagious virus known for causing sudden stomach and intestinal illness. When it appears in water, it’s most often due to sewage intrusion or breakdowns in treatment and distribution systems rather than something naturally present in drinking water. Because viruses are invisible and don’t affect taste, smell, or clarity, Stern homeowners can’t rely on senses alone to detect a problem; concerns usually come to light through a public advisory or a private microbial test of household water.

Contamination can occur when sanitation systems fail — for example during pipe repairs, pressure drops in the distribution system, or problems with private wells or septic systems. Even though norovirus commonly spreads between people or via contaminated food, water still plays a key role in everyday home uses like drinking, tooth brushing, making ice, and washing dishes in Stern families’ routines. That’s why many local homeowners choose a whole-house barrier that protects every faucet and appliance rather than relying on a single point-of-use device.
