Including filter system and high-performance PFHxS filter.
PFHxS is one of the PFAS chemicals people call a “forever chemical” because it can remain in the environment for a long time. In Portland, homeowners may see PFHxS listed when utilities or water reports break out individual PFAS compounds. You won’t notice PFHxS by sight, smell, or taste—testing is the only reliable way to detect it—so many families choose point-of-entry treatment to take control of what comes into their homes.
PFHxS has ties to industrial uses and PFAS-containing products, so traces can appear in water sources and are harder to remove with basic filters. Simple pitcher filters or sediment cartridges can help with particles but aren’t built to reliably reduce dissolved PFAS like PFHxS. That’s why many Portland homeowners opt for a solution that treats all the water used for drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry instead of just one faucet.
The most commonly recommended single option for PFHxS removal is a whole-house activated carbon system using high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC). Activated carbon adsorbs many organic compounds, including certain PFAS, and in a whole-house arrangement you want enough contact time between the water and the carbon for PFHxS to bind. A correctly sized GAC tank installed at the main line treats water before it reaches any tap in your Portland home.
At Mr. Pure Water we design whole-house carbon systems around real household needs—flow rate, bed depth, and media volume—rather than depending on a small cartridge to handle the job. That approach matters for PFHxS because performance depends on contact time and how quickly the media becomes saturated. We’ll size the GAC system to your home’s plumbing and usage so Portland families get consistent filtration and good pressure; a dedicated whole-house GAC filter is the practical choice when you want PFHxS addressed throughout the house.
