Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is a member of the PFAS family that can linger in water and the environment for long periods. Because it resists breaking down, small releases over time can result in a persistent presence in a water supply. Alma residents typically hear about PFOS from municipal reports, local news, or private testing of household wells and plumbing. If you’re worried, the sensible first steps are confirming what’s in your water and selecting a treatment designed specifically for PFAS contaminants.
PFOS doesn’t change the taste, smell, or look of water the way chlorine or sediment can, so it’s not something you can reliably detect at the tap. That’s why it’s treated as a long-term exposure issue rather than an acute nuisance. For Alma homes, treating the home at the point of entry ensures PFOS reduction across drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry so every tap receives the same protection.
When addressing PFOS for the whole house, the most effective single filter type is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) bed formulated for PFAS removal. GAC reduces PFOS by adsorbing it onto the media’s large internal surface as water flows through. Because PFOS is more persistent than many taste-and-odor issues, media quality, bed depth and correct flow rates are important. A properly sized whole-house GAC system provides comprehensive treatment for an Alma home without relying on several point-of-use units.
A whole-house GAC unit is installed on the main service line so treated water supplies every faucet and appliance. To maintain reliable PFOS reduction in an Alma residence, the system should match your peak flow needs and receive media replacements on schedule. Mr. Pure Water can help recommend a GAC configuration suited to your plumbing and household usage, and periodic before-and-after testing gives extra assurance the system continues to perform.
