Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is one member of the PFAS family that can persist in drinking water because it breaks down very slowly. That persistence means small inputs over time can lead to long-lasting presence in a supply. Aurora homeowners typically hear about PFOS through local water testing, community discussion, or news reports; if you’re worried, start by confirming what your tap water contains and then choose treatment that targets PFAS specifically.
PFOS doesn’t affect water taste or smell the way chlorine and other nuisance contaminants do, so it’s not something you can rely on your senses to detect. Because it’s primarily a long-term exposure issue, many Aurora residents prefer treating water at the point it enters the house so filtered water is supplied for drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry rather than depending on visible signs at a single faucet.
For whole-home reduction of PFOS, the most effective single option is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) system specifically sized and media-selected for PFAS removal. GAC removes PFOS by adsorbing it onto the carbon’s large internal surface as water flows through; because PFOS can be tougher to remove than common taste-and-odor compounds, the quality of the media, bed depth and correct flow rate are important. A properly sized whole-house GAC unit can protect every fixture without needing multiple under-sink treatment points.
A whole-house GAC filter is mounted on the main water line so all taps in an Aurora home receive treated water; to sustain PFOS reduction, the system must match your household’s peak flow and be serviced with timely media replacement. Mr. Pure Water can help pick a carbon configuration that fits your plumbing and usage patterns and recommend routine maintenance; if you want extra assurance, testing your water before and after installation verifies the system’s ongoing performance.
