Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is one member of the larger PFAS family that can persist in water supplies for years. Because it breaks down slowly, small inputs over time can lead to ongoing presence, which is why Chaires homeowners sometimes discover it in a water report, local coverage, or through private testing. If you’re worried, the sensible first steps are confirming what’s in your water with a test and choosing treatment that specifically targets PFAS like PFOS.
You usually can’t taste or smell PFOS the way you might detect chlorine or other nuisance issues, so visible clarity isn’t a reliable indicator of safety in Chaires households. Because PFOS is mainly a long-term exposure concern rather than an immediate nuisance, many residents prefer treating the water at the point it enters the house so drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry are all covered.
For whole-house PFOS control, the most effective single filter type is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) media formulated for PFAS removal. GAC reduces PFOS by adsorbing it onto the carbon’s large internal surface as water flows through. PFOS is more difficult to remove than common taste-and-odor compounds, so media quality, bed depth and correct flow rate are important; a properly sized whole-house GAC system treats the entire Chaires home without needing multiple under-sink units.
A whole-house GAC system is plumbed on the main water line so every faucet and fixture in your Chaires home receives treated water; sizing to peak household flow and timely media changeouts keep PFOS reduction consistent. Mr. Pure Water can recommend a GAC configuration suited to PFOS reduction and your home’s plumbing and usage, and periodic before-and-after testing provides added confidence in long-term performance.
