Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is a member of the PFAS family that can persist in water and the environment for long periods. Because it breaks down slowly, small introductions can remain in a supply over time. Gomez residents commonly hear about PFOS from local water quality reports, news stories, or home testing; if it’s a concern in your house, the sensible next step is confirming your water’s contents and selecting treatment that specifically targets PFAS.
PFOS doesn’t change the taste or smell of water the way chlorine does, so you can’t rely on appearance or odor to tell if it’s present. That makes it a longer-term exposure issue rather than an immediate nuisance. In Gomez’s humid subtropical environment — where homes on municipal supplies or private wells may also face mineral scaling or sediment — treating water at the main entry to the home is practical because it protects drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry.
For whole-house reduction of PFOS, the most effective single filter type is high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) formulated for PFAS removal. GAC removes PFOS by adsorbing the compound onto its large internal surface as water flows through. Because PFOS can be tougher to capture than typical taste-and-odor contaminants, the media quality, bed depth and proper flow rates are important to performance. A properly sized whole-house GAC system can treat all faucets in a Gomez home without depending on multiple under-sink units.
A whole-house GAC unit is mounted on the main water line so every fixture receives treated water; to maintain PFOS reduction you’ll need correct sizing for peak flow and timely media replacements. Mr. Pure Water can help recommend a GAC configuration suited for PFOS that matches your Gomez plumbing and household use, and periodic testing before and after installation gives added assurance the system is performing as expected.
