Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is a member of the PFAS family that can persist in drinking water and in the environment for a very long time. Because it breaks down slowly, even small, repeated sources can leave PFOS in a water supply over time. Pine Barren homeowners most commonly hear about PFOS through local testing, utility reports, or the news, and the best next step is confirming what’s in your own tap water and selecting treatment designed specifically for PFAS compounds.
PFOS doesn’t change the taste, smell, or appearance of water the way chlorine or sediment can, so it’s not something you can reliably detect at the kitchen sink. That makes it a longer-term exposure concern rather than an obvious nuisance. For families in Pine Barren, treating water where it enters the house is a practical way to reduce PFOS for drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry throughout the home.
For whole-house reduction of PFOS, the most effective single filter is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) system formulated for PFAS removal. GAC removes PFOS by adsorbing it onto the media’s large internal surface area as water flows through. Because PFOS can be tougher to address than typical taste-and-odor issues, media quality, bed depth and correct flow rates are important; a properly sized whole-house GAC unit will treat an entire Pine Barren residence without needing multiple under-sink units.
A whole-house GAC filter is fitted on your main water line so every faucet and appliance in a Pine Barren home receives treated water; to maintain PFOS reduction performance the system must match your household peak flow and have timely media changeouts. Mr. Pure Water can help recommend a whole-house carbon setup suited to PFOS concerns and your home’s plumbing and usage, and you can confirm results with periodic before-and-after water testing for added assurance.
