Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is one of the PFAS chemicals that can persist in drinking water because it doesn’t break down easily. Small, repeated releases can lead to long-term presence in a water supply, which is why many Spray homeowners first hear about PFOS through water quality reports, local news, or results from a private well test. If you’re worried about PFOS in your Spray home, a sensible first step is confirming what’s in your water and then choosing a treatment that specifically targets PFAS.
Because PFOS usually has no taste or smell, it’s not something you can reliably detect by sampling a glass at the kitchen sink. That makes it different from obvious issues like chlorine or sulfur, and it’s generally treated as a long-term exposure concern rather than an immediate nuisance. For Spray residents who want whole-home protection — for drinking, cooking, bathing, and laundry — treating water at the point where it enters the house is a practical and comprehensive option.
The most effective single filter type for whole-house PFOS reduction is high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) formulated for PFAS removal. GAC removes PFOS by adsorbing the contaminant onto its extensive internal surface as water flows through the media. Because PFOS is tougher to remove than many taste-and-odor issues, the quality of the carbon, bed depth, and correct flow rates are important — especially for homes in Spray where a single properly sized system should handle the entire household without relying on multiple under-sink units.
A whole-house GAC system is plumbed on the main service line so treated water reaches every faucet and fixture in your Spray home; it should be sized for peak household flow and kept performing with timely media changeouts. Mr. Pure Water can help recommend a carbon configuration appropriate for PFOS that fits your plumbing and usage patterns, and we also suggest periodic water testing before and after installation to confirm the system is delivering the expected reduction.
