Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is one of the PFAS chemicals that can persist in the environment and sometimes shows up in drinking water. Because it breaks down slowly, small amounts introduced over time can remain in a supply. Three Lakes homeowners typically hear about PFOS through utility reports, local news, or private well testing — particularly where groundwater from the Floridan aquifer is used. If you’re worried, the next step is confirming what’s in your water and choosing a treatment that specifically targets PFAS like PFOS.
PFOS doesn’t affect taste or smell the way chlorine does, so you can’t rely on your senses to know if it’s present. That makes it a longer-term exposure issue rather than an obvious nuisance. For Three Lakes households, treating water where it enters the home is a practical solution so reduced PFOS applies to drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry across every bathroom and kitchen fixture.
The single most effective whole-house option for reducing PFOS is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) system formulated for PFAS. GAC captures PFOS by adsorbing it onto extensive internal surface area as water moves through the media. Because PFOS is tougher to remove than simple taste-and-odor contaminants, factors like media quality, bed depth and proper flow rates are important — especially in homes drawing hard groundwater from the Floridan aquifer. A correctly sized whole-house GAC filter can protect the entire home without relying on multiple point-of-use units.
A whole-house GAC unit is plumbed on the main service line so every tap in your Three Lakes home receives treated water; sizing to peak flow and timely media changeouts keep performance consistent. Mr. Pure Water can help select a carbon configuration suited for PFOS and your home’s plumbing and usage patterns, and we recommend periodic testing before and after installation to confirm ongoing reduction.
