Including filter system and high-performance PFOS filter.
PFOS is one member of the broader PFAS family that can persist in the environment and resist natural breakdown. Because it stays around a long time, small sources introduced over years may lead to continued presence in a water supply. Zellwood residents typically hear about PFOS from local water reports, neighborhood conversations near Lake Apopka or Wekiwa Springs, or from an independent home water test. If you’re worried about PFOS in your house, the sensible first steps are confirming your results with testing and selecting treatment designed specifically for PFAS contaminants.
PFOS doesn’t change the look, smell, or taste of water the way chlorine can, so you can’t rely on your senses to detect it. That makes it a long-term exposure concern rather than an obvious household nuisance. For Zellwood homes—where hard Central Florida groundwater can already stress plumbing and appliances—a practical choice is treating water at the main entry so drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry all benefit from the same protection against PFOS.
The most effective single-filter option for whole-house PFOS reduction is a high-capacity granular activated carbon (GAC) system specified for PFAS removal. GAC removes PFOS by adsorbing it onto a very large internal surface area as your water flows through the media. Because PFOS can be tougher to remove than ordinary taste-and-odor compounds, it’s important to use high-quality carbon media, sufficient bed depth and correct flow rates—especially for hard-water areas like Zellwood—so the system treats the whole home without relying on multiple under-sink units.
A whole-house GAC filter is mounted on the main service line so every tap and appliance—from the kitchen to the laundry—receives treated water. To maintain PFOS reduction you’ll need a system sized for your peak flow and scheduled media changeouts; this also helps protect fixtures that contend with hard water in Central Florida. Mr. Pure Water can recommend a GAC configuration that fits Zellwood plumbing and household use, and periodic before-and-after testing can confirm the system continues to perform over time.
