Including filter system and high-performance PFUnA filter.
PFUnA is one of the PFAS chemicals homeowners hear about when researching persistent, hard-to-treat contaminants in drinking water. It can get into water supplies from industrial sources and the breakdown of related fluorinated chemicals, and it tends to persist rather than break down quickly. Modello residents often first learn about PFUnA through local utility notices, news, or private well testing; if you’re worried, focus on treatment options that specifically target PFAS compounds.
Because PFUnA is usually present at very low levels, you won’t be able to see, smell, or taste it in your tap water, which makes testing the only reliable way to know what’s in your supply. PFAS like PFUnA act differently than familiar water problems such as chlorine taste, sediment, or the effects of hard water, so simple cartridge filters often won’t be enough. For many Modello homes—whether on municipal water or a private well—a whole-house system can help reduce exposure during drinking, cooking, and showering.
For whole-house reduction of PFUnA, a quality granular activated carbon (GAC) filter is commonly the most effective single-filter choice for residential use. GAC media offers extensive surface area that adsorbs many organic contaminants, including various PFAS. Effectiveness against PFUnA depends on using the appropriate carbon type, allowing enough contact time, and managing flow rates—so a properly sized whole-house carbon tank typically performs better than a small, fast-flow cartridge.
At Mr. Pure Water we recommend installing a whole-house GAC system at the point where water enters your Modello home so treated water serves every tap and appliance. Systems are selected to match household water use to prevent short contact times that can reduce PFAS adsorption. As with all adsorption media, the carbon requires scheduled maintenance and replacement to stay effective as it becomes loaded; if you have recent test results from your Modello supply, we’ll use them to size and configure the system for PFUnA reduction.
