Including filter system and high-performance Radium filter.
Radium is a naturally occurring radioactive metal that can end up in groundwater and, in some places, in household drinking water. Because you can’t see, smell, or taste radium, testing is the only reliable way to know whether it’s in your tap. Lab reports may list it as radium-226 or radium-228. When homeowners in Holmes Valley want steady protection, many choose a treatment that safeguards every faucet instead of treating only one fixture.
Radium moves into water as it passes through certain rock and soil, so its occurrence depends on local geology rather than everyday plumbing habits. It often travels with other dissolved minerals, so water that looks clear in Holmes Valley can still carry radium alongside hardness and total dissolved solids. If you’re worried about long-term exposure, treating water where it enters the house — a whole-house system — helps reduce radium throughout your plumbing for cooking, bathing, and drinking.
For whole-house radium control, an ion exchange water softener is commonly the most effective single-filter option. These systems use resin beads to swap sodium or potassium for certain dissolved minerals, and radium can be removed through that same exchange. That makes ion exchange a good choice when radium is dissolved in the water instead of attached to sediment. Installed on the main line into your Holmes Valley home, it treats all incoming water so every tap gets the same level of protection.
Because ion exchange media has limited capacity, correct sizing and ongoing maintenance are essential to keep radium removal working reliably. The resin requires regular regeneration, and settings must match your water chemistry and household demand to avoid premature exhaustion. Many Holmes Valley homes also benefit from a sediment prefilter to protect the resin and maintain steady flow. Mr. Pure Water can help you choose and install a whole-house ion exchange system that targets radium-226 and radium-228 while fitting your plumbing and daily water use.
