Including filter system and high-performance Radium filter.
Radium is a naturally occurring radioactive metal that can end up in groundwater and, in some places, in household tap water. Because it’s undetectable by taste, smell, or sight, testing is the only reliable way for Nevins homeowners to know whether radium or its common labels—radium-226 and radium-228—are present. When people find elevated levels, many prefer a treatment that protects the entire house rather than only a single faucet.
The likelihood of radium showing up in water depends largely on local geology as water moves through rock and soil, so it can appear alongside other dissolved minerals. In Nevins, where groundwater from limestone aquifers contributes to hard water and scale, radium can travel with the same dissolved solids even when the water looks clear. If long-term exposure is a concern, treating water where it enters the house is a practical step; a whole-house system provides consistent reduction for drinking, cooking, bathing, and all plumbing fixtures.
For whole-house radium control, an ion exchange water softener is commonly the most effective single-filter choice. These systems use resin beads that exchange sodium or potassium for certain dissolved minerals, and they can capture radium as part of that process. When radium is dissolved rather than bound to sediment, a properly installed ion exchange unit on the main line treats all incoming water so every tap in your Nevins home benefits.
Because ion exchange media have limited capacity, correct sizing and regular maintenance are important for dependable radium reduction over time. The resin requires periodic regeneration, and system settings should match your Nevins water chemistry and household usage so the media doesn’t exhaust prematurely. Many homes in our area also add a sediment prefilter to protect the resin and maintain steady flow; Mr. Pure Water can help you pick and install a whole-house ion exchange solution that targets radium-226 and radium-228 and fits your plumbing and water needs.
