Including filter system and high-performance Radium filter.
Radium is a naturally occurring radioactive metal that can occasionally enter groundwater and residential water supplies. Because you can’t see, smell, or taste it, testing is the only reliable way for Sanborn homeowners to know whether radium-226 or radium-228 is present. When results show elevated levels, many families prefer a solution that protects every faucet in the house rather than treating only a single tap.
Radium makes its way into water as it moves through certain rock and soil, so its occurrence is driven by local geology more than by household activities. It can travel with other dissolved minerals, so water that looks clear in Sanborn may still carry radium alongside hardness or other solids. For homeowners worried about long-term exposure, treating the water where it enters the home with a whole-house system is an effective way to reduce radium throughout plumbing used for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
When you want whole-house radium reduction, an ion exchange water softener is often the most effective single-filter choice. These systems use resin beads to swap sodium or potassium for certain dissolved minerals, and they can capture radium in that same exchange process. Installed on the main water line into your Sanborn home, an ion exchange system treats all incoming water and helps maintain consistent protection at every tap.
Because ion exchange resin has a limited capacity, correct sizing and regular maintenance are essential for dependable radium removal over time. The resin requires periodic regeneration, and system settings should be matched to your water chemistry and household demand so the media doesn’t exhaust prematurely. Many Sanborn homes also benefit from a sediment prefilter to protect the resin and preserve flow. Mr. Pure Water can help you choose and install a whole-house ion exchange system that targets radium-226 and radium-228 and fits your plumbing and water use.
