Including filter system and high-performance Radium filter.
Radium is a naturally occurring radioactive metal that can sometimes enter groundwater and household drinking water without any taste, smell, or color. The only reliable way to know if it’s in your supply is a test, and lab reports may identify it as radium-226 or radium-228. Southport homeowners who want protection often choose treatments that cover the whole house rather than just an under-sink unit, so every tap is treated the same.
Because radium comes from the rock and soil it moves through, its presence depends on local geology more than on daily use—so even clear water in Southport can carry dissolved minerals alongside hardness or other dissolved solids. If you’re thinking about long-term exposure, the most reliable option is to treat water where it enters the home; a whole-house system keeps drinking, cooking, and bathing water consistently protected throughout your Southport plumbing.
When treating radium at the whole-house level, an ion exchange water softener is often the single-filter style that works best. These systems use resin beads that exchange sodium or potassium for certain dissolved minerals, and that same process can capture radium-226 and radium-228 when they’re present in dissolved form. Installed on the main water line, an ion exchange unit treats all incoming water so every faucet in your Southport home benefits.
Ion exchange systems have a limited capacity, so getting the size and maintenance schedule right is important for consistent radium reduction. The resin requires regular regeneration, and the unit’s settings should match your water chemistry and household demand to avoid early exhaustion. Many Southport homes also gain from a sediment prefilter to protect the resin and maintain good flow. Mr. Pure Water can help you choose and install a whole-house ion exchange system tailored to your plumbing and water use that targets radium-226 and radium-228.
