Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a natural mineral that can appear in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates. While it doesn’t usually change the flavor, it can cause real headaches around the house. In Cox residences you may notice stubborn deposits after water evaporates or is heated — hard-to-remove film on glassware, spotting on shower doors, and buildup on faucets and appliances that work with hot water.
Because silica often remains dissolved and chemically stable, it doesn’t respond well to every treatment used for other common water problems. Standard water softeners target calcium and magnesium and generally aren’t the best fix for silica. Silicates can also occur as very fine particles that behave differently than dissolved silica, so the issue can linger in a Cox home even when other aspects of your water feel managed.
For most homes the single most effective whole-house option for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO relies on a semipermeable membrane that removes many dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, rather than only catching larger particles. That makes reverse osmosis particularly effective for the dissolved forms of silica that can pass through sediment or carbon filters, provided the system is correctly sized for your Cox household.
A whole-house reverse osmosis installation is usually paired with pretreatment to protect the membrane and maintain performance. Sediment and carbon stages reduce fouling and remove substances that could interfere with the RO membrane, while the RO stage handles dissolved silica. If some silica exists as fine particulate, pretreatment captures it before it reaches the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can test Cox water, confirm whether silica or silicates are contributing to your buildup, and recommend the right configuration for your home.
