Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a naturally occurring mineral that appears in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates. It doesn’t always change flavor, but it can leave behind hard-to-remove deposits when water evaporates or is heated. In Holt households these deposits show up as spotting on glass, film on fixtures, and stubborn buildup in kettles, dishwashers and other hot-water appliances.
Because silica often remains dissolved and stable, it doesn’t respond well to the same treatments that address calcium and magnesium. Typical water softeners focus on hardness minerals and usually aren’t the best answer for silica or silicates. Some silica also exists as very fine particulate that behaves differently than dissolved forms, which is why homeowners in Holt can still see deposits even when other water issues seem solved.
For most Holt homes, the single most effective whole-house filter for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO uses a semipermeable membrane to remove dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, rather than only catching larger particles the way sediment or carbon filters do. Properly sized and installed, RO addresses the dissolved forms that cause the persistent spotting and scaling you notice around the house.
A whole-house reverse osmosis installation is usually accompanied by pretreatment to preserve membrane life and maintain consistent performance. Sediment and carbon stages ahead of the RO reduce fouling, capture fine particulate silica, and remove other substances that can interfere with the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can evaluate your Holt plumbing and recommend the right pretreatment and RO configuration if silica or silicates are contributing to your buildup.
