Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a natural mineral that can appear in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates, and it doesn’t always affect taste. In Kendall houses—where Miami-Dade’s limestone aquifer and generally hard water are common—silica can still cause nuisance problems. When water evaporates or is heated, silica tends to leave behind stubborn deposits that are tougher to remove than ordinary mineral scale, leading to spotting on glass, buildup on faucets and fixtures, and diminished performance in hot-water appliances.
Treating silica can be more complicated than handling standard hardness minerals. Typical water softeners focus on calcium and magnesium and usually aren’t the best answer for dissolved silica or silicates. Some silica may also exist as very fine particulate, which behaves differently than dissolved forms. That means even Kendall homeowners who have addressed other water issues can still see persistent deposits and spotting unless the system specifically targets silica.
For most residential situations, the single most effective whole-house option for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO relies on a semipermeable membrane to remove many dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, instead of merely trapping larger particles. That makes reverse osmosis well suited to the dissolved silica that can pass through sediment or carbon filters, and when sized and installed correctly it addresses the source rather than only treating visible buildup.
A whole-house reverse osmosis arrangement usually includes pretreatment to protect the membrane and maintain consistent performance. Sediment and carbon stages cut down on fouling and remove other constituents that can interfere with the RO membrane, while the RO stage removes dissolved silica; pretreatment also helps capture any fine particulate silica before it reaches the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can assess whether silica or silicates are behind the spotting and scale in your Kendall home and recommend the right pretreatment and RO configuration for your plumbing and appliances.
