Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a naturally occurring mineral that can appear in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates. It usually won’t change water’s taste, but around the house it can cause real headaches: when water heats or evaporates it can leave behind stubborn, hard-to-remove deposits. Kern homeowners may spot more film on shower glass, residue on faucets, and mineral buildup on appliances that use hot water.
Dissolved silica is often chemically stable in water, which makes it harder to treat with systems meant for other issues. Standard softeners target calcium and magnesium (water hardness), not silica, so they don’t reliably prevent silica-related deposits. Some silica can also exist as very fine particulate that behaves differently from dissolved silicates, so the trouble can persist in Kern homes even when other water concerns seem handled.
For many residences the single most effective whole-house filter for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO uses a semipermeable membrane to remove dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, rather than only capturing larger particles. That ability makes reverse osmosis a strong match for the dissolved forms that can pass through sediment or carbon filters and cause the spotting and buildup you see.
A whole-house RO installation is usually combined with pretreatment stages to keep the membrane working well. Sediment and carbon filters ahead of the RO reduce fouling and strip out other contaminants that could shorten membrane life, while the RO membrane addresses dissolved silica; pretreatment also helps catch any fine particulate silica before it reaches the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can evaluate your Kern home’s water and recommend the right pretreatment and RO configuration to address silica or silicates contributing to your buildup.
