Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a naturally occurring mineral that can appear in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates. It may not noticeably alter flavor, but it can cause real headaches for Surfside homeowners — especially with our coastal salt air and hard municipal water. When hot water evaporates or heats, silica can leave behind stubborn deposits that are tougher to remove than ordinary scale, leading to spotting on glass, crusty buildup on fixtures, and diminished performance in water-using appliances.
Because silica often stays dissolved and chemically stable, it doesn’t respond well to the same treatments used for other common concerns. Standard water softeners target hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium and usually aren’t the best fix for silica. Some silica also exists as very fine particulates, which behave differently from dissolved silica or silicates. That’s why you might still see deposits around Surfside homes — even when your softened water seems otherwise under control.
For most homes the single most effective whole-house option for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO relies on a semipermeable membrane to strip many dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, rather than simply capturing larger particles. Because dissolved silica can pass through typical sediment or carbon filters, a properly sized RO system is a better fit for addressing the form of silica that causes persistent spotting and scale in Surfside plumbing and appliances.
A whole-house reverse osmosis installation is usually paired with pretreatment to protect the membrane and maintain reliable performance. Sediment and carbon stages reduce fouling and remove other substances that interfere with the RO membrane, while the RO stage removes dissolved silica; pretreatment also helps capture any fine particulate silica before it reaches the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can assess whether silica or silicates are contributing to buildup in your Surfside home and recommend the right pretreatment and RO configuration for your plumbing and appliances.
