Including filter system and high-performance Silica filter.
Silica is a naturally occurring mineral that can appear in tap water as dissolved silica or as silicates. While it may not alter flavor, it can create everyday hassles in Washington Park homes — especially in our hard South Florida water. When water heats or evaporates, silica can leave behind tougher, more persistent deposits than typical mineral scale, causing extra spotting on glass, buildup on fixtures, and decreased efficiency in water-heating appliances.
Because silica often remains dissolved and stable in water, it doesn’t always respond to the same treatments used for calcium and magnesium. Standard water softeners in Broward County are built to tackle hardness minerals but aren’t usually the best fix for silica or silicates. Some silica also exists as fine particulate that behaves differently from dissolved forms, so you can still see deposits and performance issues even after addressing other water-quality concerns.
For most homes the single most effective whole-house solution for reducing silica is a reverse osmosis system. RO uses a semipermeable membrane to remove dissolved minerals, including silica and silicates, instead of merely filtering larger particles. That makes reverse osmosis a better match for the dissolved silica that can pass through sediment or carbon filters, so it tackles the root cause of scale and spotting rather than only treating surface symptoms.
A whole-house reverse osmosis installation is usually paired with pretreatment to protect the membrane and maintain steady performance. Sediment and carbon stages remove particulates and other substances that foul membranes, while the RO stage reduces dissolved silica. If any silica is present as very fine particulate, the pretreatment captures much of it before it reaches the membrane. Mr. Pure Water can assess whether silica or silicates are contributing to buildup in your Washington Park home and recommend the right pretreatment and RO configuration for our local hard-water conditions.
