Including filter system and high-performance Silvex filter.
Silvex is a man-made herbicide that can enter water when agricultural chemicals run off into surface supplies or leach into groundwater. Often called 2,4,5-TP, it’s one of several pesticide-related compounds homeowners may see on water reports. Because silvex can be present at very low concentrations and has no clear taste or smell, testing is usually the only way to know whether it’s in your supply. If you live in Concord and are worried about silvex, learning how it behaves in water and what reductions are possible at home is a good first step.
Like other older herbicides, 2,4,5-TP can linger in the environment and may appear intermittently in source water depending on runoff, seasons, or changes upstream. Even without recent local use, trace amounts can move through the environment and show up in testing. Many Concord homeowners begin investigating silvex after a lab result flags it or simply to add protection beyond standard municipal treatment. A whole-house solution treats every tap, shower and appliance so treated water reaches the whole home, not only the kitchen sink.
To reduce silvex throughout a Concord home, a whole-house activated carbon filter is usually the most effective single-filter choice. Activated carbon adsorbs many organic chemicals — including pesticide and herbicide molecules like 2,4,5-TP — by trapping them on a very high surface area media. This approach doesn’t add chemicals to your water and treats water before it reaches fixtures and appliances, giving more consistent reduction for drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry.
Performance depends on contact time and media capacity, so the right whole-house carbon system for a Concord household is sized to match your flow rate and daily water use. Tank-style carbon units generally outperform small point-of-use cartridges when you want silvex reduction at every outlet. Keeping the media replaced on schedule is important so the filter continues to adsorb 2,4,5-TP effectively, and adding prefiltration for sediment or chlorine can help the carbon work at its best.
