Including filter system and high-performance Silvex filter.
Silvex is a man-made herbicide that can enter water supplies when agricultural chemicals wash off fields or seep into groundwater. Also known as 2,4,5-TP, it’s one of several pesticide-type compounds homeowners see listed on lab reports. Because silvex typically has no taste or smell at low levels, testing is the reliable way to know whether it’s present. If you live in Fidelis and are worried about herbicide runoff or just want peace of mind, it helps to understand how silvex behaves in water and what you can do at home to reduce it.
Like many legacy herbicides, 2,4,5-TP can linger in the environment and turn up intermittently depending on runoff, seasons, and source-water changes. Even where it’s not currently applied nearby, trace amounts can move through waterways and groundwater over time. Fidelis homeowners commonly investigate silvex after seeing it on a water test or when they want protection beyond municipal treatment. Installing whole-house treatment makes sure that treated water reaches every tap, shower and appliance in your home rather than only a single fixture.
For treating silvex throughout a residence, a whole-house activated carbon filter is generally the most effective single-filter choice. Activated carbon adsorbs many organic contaminants, including herbicides and pesticides like 2,4,5-TP, by trapping them on a high-surface-area media. This method doesn’t add chemicals to your water and treats water before it flows to faucets and fixtures, giving Fidelis homes consistent reduction for drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry.
Performance depends on contact time and the carbon’s capacity, so the best whole-house systems are sized to match your household’s flow and water use. A properly sized tank-style carbon unit usually outperforms small under-sink cartridges when you want silvex reduction at every outlet. Routine media replacement keeps the system working to adsorb 2,4,5-TP, and adding sediment prefiltration or chlorine protection can help the carbon media perform at its best in Fidelis homes.
