Including filter system and high-performance Strontium-90 filter.
Strontium-90 is a radioactive form of strontium that can occur at very low concentrations in water. Because it behaves much like calcium, it dissolves and travels with groundwater and can enter a Leonia house through the main service line. There’s no dependable taste, smell, or color to signal its presence, so the only way to know is by testing for radionuclides specifically.
In Leonia households, water is used for cooking, making ice, showering, and oral care — so any contaminant found in test results becomes a whole-house concern. If your water test indicates elevated strontium-90, the most practical step is treating water at the point it enters your home so every faucet and appliance is protected. Countertop or under-sink point-of-use filters can treat a single tap, but they won’t cover baths, laundry, or outdoor spigots the way a whole-house solution will.
A whole-house water softener using ion exchange is often the best single-filter option for reducing strontium-90 because the resin exchanges certain dissolved ions for sodium or potassium. That same exchange process can capture positively charged contaminants like strontium, so installing an ion exchange softener at the Leonia service entry point treats water before it reaches showers, sinks, and appliances. For many homeowners, this makes an ion exchange system a straightforward, entry-point solution.
To be effective for a Leonia home, an ion exchange softener must be sized for your household’s flow and the water’s overall mineral load. Regular regeneration with salt restores the resin’s capacity to remove strontium, and routine maintenance preserves long-term performance. Adding a prefilter can block sediment that would otherwise wear the media down. Mr. Pure Water can help interpret your test results and recommend a properly sized whole-house softener that targets strontium-90 without adding unnecessary complexity.
