Including filter system and high-performance Tannins filter.
Tannins are natural organic compounds that can tint household water a yellow, amber or tea-like color. They commonly appear when groundwater moves through decaying plant matter, peat or certain soils before reaching wells or pipes. In Pretty Bayou, tannins may not always be obvious by taste alone, but they can give water an earthy or musty flavor and make it look discolored. Over time those compounds can also leave stubborn stains on fixtures, laundry and appliances if left untreated.
Because tannins dissolve into the water, they won’t settle like sand or grit and can pass right through basic cartridge filters. Many Pretty Bayou homeowners notice the issue when clear glasses look tinted, white clothing picks up a yellow cast, or bathing products don’t rinse away cleanly. Tannins can also interact with iron in the supply, making discoloration and staining more visible and trickier to identify. The reliable step is a professional water test so treatment can be matched to your results.
For whole-house tannin control, the best single-filter solution is an anion exchange system built specifically for tannins. These systems use a specialized resin that attracts and holds the negatively charged organic molecules responsible for the tea-colored tint, removing the color before it reaches every tap in your Pretty Bayou home. Compared to standard carbon filters, anion exchange is usually more effective at stripping dissolved tannins when installed at the main water entry to protect plumbing, fixtures and appliances.
An anion exchange tannin filter performs best when paired with the proper prefiltration and correctly sized for your household so it won’t clog or channel. Like a water softener, it requires periodic regeneration to flush out captured organics and restore the resin’s capacity. If your water also has iron, sulfur odors or visible sediment, treating those issues alongside tannins helps prevent stains from returning and improves overall clarity. Mr. Pure Water can review your Pretty Bayou water test and recommend the right whole-house setup for your needs.
